How will I convert my GDA94 coordinates to GDA2020 and vice-versa?

Official transformation parameters and tools to convert between GDA94 and GDA2020 and vice-versa will be developed by ICSM,
led by Geoscience Australia in conjunction with other jurisdictions and the Cooperative Research Centre-Spatial Information.  
The following products will be available:
·         A 2D transformation and distortion grid file in the widely used Canadian National Transformations version 2 (NTv2) format
·         7 parameter (Helmert) transformation 
·         A 3D transformation grid file – format yet to be determined.
·         Plate motion model
Values for the 14 parameter transformation supporting conversion of datasets between GDA2020 and ITRF2014 will also be published.

This information will be provided directly to the EPSG Geodetic Parameter Registry which is referred to by spatial software and hardware
providers worldwide before incorporating transformation parameters into software and firmware.  

 

The major software developers and their Australian distributors will also be contacted directly by PCG and GMIWG representatives to alert
them to the release of the defining parameters of the new Australian geocentric datum.

 

These measures are being taken with a view to fast-tracking the adoption of GDA2020 into new releases of spatial software and hardware.

Both the 7 parameter (Helmert) transformation parameters and the values for the 14 parameter transformation have been published by way of a GDA2020 Interim Release Note.

These parameters allow conversion between GDA94, GDA2020 and ITRF 2014.

The spreadsheet linked below is primarily for demonstrating the Landgate Project Grid Projections used in Western Australia. However it also has some embedded functions that utilize the published 7 parameter transformation parameters to convert between AGD84, GDA94 and GDA2020.

The Interim release note mentions there was no intention to release official AGD66 and AGD84 to GDA2020 transformations, so has there been a published 7 parameter transformation to convert between AGD84 and GDA2020

The process to transform from AGD66 or AGD84 coordinates to GDA2020 coordinates is to first transform them to GDA94 (details and tools can be found here: http://www.icsm.gov.au/gda/tech.html) and then to use the parameters and formulae published in the GDA2020 Interim Release Note (http://www.icsm.gov.au/gda2020/index.html) to transform from GDA94 to GDA2020 coordinates.

As mentioned in the first post on this topic, tools to convert between GDA94 and GDA2020 and vice-versa is currently being developed by Geoscience Australia in conjunction with other jurisdictions and the Cooperative Research Centre Spatial Information.  These tools are expected late April/early May.
